For the first time ever, the annual fundraiser known as Fight For Air Climb took place at Fenway Park in Boston.

WHDH / 7 Boston News reports that last Saturday dozens of people ran the stadium steps in an attempt to raise funds for lung cancer research and also COVID-19 research. This year, the event was sponsored by the American Lung Association.

The Fight For Air Climb raises funds that support research and education on lung disease, lung cancer and COVID-19.

The Fight For Air Climb took place Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and was a combination of an in-person event and a virtual climb due to the pandemic. In-person participants were to follow the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines and wear a mask if they had not been fully immunized.

Lung disease can affect respiratory function, or the ability to breathe, and lung function, which is how well the lungs work. There are many types of lung disease. Some are caused by bacterial, viral or fungal infections. Others are associated with environmental factors, including asthma, mesothelioma, and lung cancer.

Environmental factors linked to lung disease include smoking, asbestos, radon, air pollution, and chemicals. Breathing second-hand smoke can also increase your risk of developing lung disease.

The fundraising goal for this year is approximately $ 200,000. At the last check-up, the total raised so far was approximately $ 150,000. Hopefully this number will increase.
