expensive mackerel

She explained that the mackerel bought by the diner that day was already expensive compared to its cost price, since the price of this fish had recently increased.

The price, she explained, is determined by the quality, which differs.

Cai said, “The mackerel has different qualities. The ones I take are good, and they are thickly sliced, not thinly sliced like other budget rice stalls.”

“The piece of mackerel cost S$7 or S$8, and I only sold that piece to the restaurant for S$9+.”

The landlady also explained that she even gave the customer a discount disregarding other costs and informed him that the meal was more expensive.

She added, “I didn’t charge for the extra rice and the container, so how can that be expensive?”

“And when he was buying the meal, I even told him it would be more expensive, and asked him if he was sure he wanted to buy it.”

Regular customers defend the stand

According to the reporter, regular customers stepped in to defend the stall owners and said the prices at this stall were reasonable and the seafood prices had gone up.

Based on the reporter’s observations, some diners will ask about the individual prices of dishes before choosing them.

A 10-year-old regular customer, who frequents the stand regularly, said the food selection was varied and fresh.

The regular customer said: “Some things are cheap and expensive. If you are used to buying fish or vegetables, you would know that everything has become more expensive recently.”

“If you think it’s expensive, you should ask clearly before buying it, and you shouldn’t say that.”

Cai also said in response that the customer who complained may have been someone who did not know the general price of the items on the stand, especially the two dishes purchased that day.
